NBA Power Rankings: San Antonio Spurs Ascend to Top Spot
The Golden State Warriors weren’t going to reign forever. Not in the NBA Math Power Rankings, which are intentionally reactionary and weigh recent events just as heavily as what’s come to pass throughout the entire season.
But it’s not the Cleveland Cavaliers ascending to the top.
No. 1 now belongs to the San Antonio Spurs, fresh off a week in which 12 of the 14 players who appeared in games managed to submit positive scores in total points added (TPA). Jonathon Simmons (minus-2.68 TPA) and Dejounte Murray (minus-3.47) were the lone exceptions, while LaMarcus Aldridge (22.02), Kawhi Leonard (19.52) and Pau Gasol (13.58) excelled.
Just as in last week’s rankings, we’re determining how all 30 teams stack up in wholly objective fashion, using our Team Rating metric to evaluate both season-long performances and the levels the squads have played at in the last few weeks.
As such, placements will be determined by the average score in two components: season-long Team Rating and Team Rating in the 10 games prior to publication.
