By the end of the 2016-17 NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers will reassert themselves as bona fide contenders. But January continues to be a rough month for the defending champions, as they’re falling outsid the top 10 in the NBA Math Power Rankings for the first time this campaign.

Their offense has come apart, to the point that it’s earned a 98.34 adjusted offensive rating during its last 10 games. Yes, that’s a below-average mark for a team that still features LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

The Cavaliers’ score in this countdown is admittedly depressed by its 126-91 blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors, but these rankings are intentionally reactive. We want a full picture of what teams have done over the entire season, but we also want to see their form in recent outings.

Just as in last week’s edition, we’re determining how all 30 teams stack up in wholly objective fashion, using our Team Rating metric to evaluate both season-long performances and the levels the squads have played at in the last few weeks.

As such, placements will be determined by the average score in two components: season-long Team Rating and Team Rating in the 10 games prior to publication.
